Small Appliance Puppet Theater is an Austin, Texas based group that has realized that...well...that appliances have a voice that is seldom heard. So we decided to give them a forum. Their mission is to shine the light of truth (as they see it) on the political goings-on in the upper echelons of our government. And to make us laugh. We love our appliance puppet friends!!!

We. Are. So. Famous.
Well, we like to think we are, or that maybe we will be one of these days. The New York Press has run an article about the upcoming International Fringe Festival and, yup, we made it to another "best bets" list, yee haw! And then there's the article in The Village Voice -- scroll down to the section called "Democracy (What's Left of It).
There will be a nice, long, pithy interview appearing on Austinist either this afternoon or tomorrow morning, so be sure to check that out as well. And that radio spot on KUT (90.5FM in Austin)? That will air THIS AFTERNOON during All Things Considered.
Imagine a hot, languid August evening hanging heavily above the colored light bulbs that criss-cross from tree to tree above the patio of a sleepy, slightly shabby little coffee shop in Austin, Texas. Writer/actor Steve Barney has just returned from performing his one man show "Wade" at FringeNYC and is sharing his adventures with Chris, who is drinking iced tea in a futile effort to emerge from her annual bout of heat-induced brain death long enough to have an intelligent converstion. She innocently asks, "So, Steve, what's next?" to which Steve replies, little knowing the import of his words: SMALL. APPLIANCE. PUPPET. THEATER. Just a couple of short weeks later, ennui forgotten in a burst of creative energy, Chris is hosting a living room full of people and their appliance pals, riffing and cavorting and discovering complicated and sometimes tragic relationships between can openers, blenders, fruit juicers and more.
The rest is history still in the making. Stay tuned to watch it as it unfolds.
